On June 8th, elite marathoner, triathlete and EnduroPacks brand ambassador, Sara Randolph competed in the USAT Long Course Nationals in Grand Rapids, MI. If she could place in the top 20 in her age group, she would earn a spot to represent the US in Motala, Sweden in 2015. Of course the impressive Randolph placed 3rd in her age group!
Despite the pouring rain during the swim portion of her race, she ended up 4th in her age group. Sara maintained an average of 20.0 mph on her bike. She was happy with her speed throughout the race, and even managed a few climbs midway through the bike without losing a lot of speed.
During her run, Sara maintained a 7:29 per mile overall pace for the run. Sara said how she was really excited about that pace and her legs felt good. The most exciting part was that, not ONE person passed her on the run, male or female! “I felt really strong on the run and I was even able to pass the FOUR girls in my age group that had passed me on my bike!” “I finished 1st in my AG for the run portion too.” Congratulations to Sara for making it onto the podium and for the chance to represent the US in Sweden! Dehydration Results In Lower Blood Pressure And Slows Bodily Processes. Active individuals should be aware of the acute effects of dehydration on performance. With just a 2% loss of water in the body, heat regulation becomes impacted. With a 3% drop in body weight from water loss, muscle cell contraction is impacted. And at 4% loss, there is 5-10% reduction in overall performance that can last up to 4 hours.
We need to hydrate. But how can you hydrate and replace electrolytes without the harmful additives like sweeteners and artificial flavoring common in sports drinks that are harsh on your stomach?
